FISHING

Fishing privileges are open to any member (in good standing) subject to the following Rules and Regulations or of any that may be made hereafter by the FISH and GAME COMMITTEE or by the Board of Directors.

Opening and closing Dates

The fishing season on the Swallow Hill property will begin on the first Sunday in May on stocked ponds until the season ends in accordance with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts fishing regulations. Fishing times will be in accordance with the Commonwealth regulations unless altered by the Board of Directors. (For example, the day before derby). Trout may be taken by any legal means in any pond on the property. Positively no snagging or netting will be allowed in the catching of fish on the property.

The Fly Pond and Small Pool by the Club House are the only stocked areas. Trout may be taken by flies, spinners or artificial bait. Positively no snagging or use of a net except after a trout has been taken. No other means of taking trout will be allowed.

Limits

A member is allowed to take four (4) trout in any one day, but not over twenty-five (25) in a season. These limits apply to all ponds and streams on the property. Derbies are excluded. State limit applies to other species of fish on the Middle Pond, and both sides of the road for the Big Ponds.

Boats

No boats are allowed on the Fly Pools or the Middle Pond at any time. Boats may be used on the big ponds but the Fitchburg Sportsmen's Club, Inc., will not be responsible for loss or damage to them.

Registering Trout

All trout caught must be registered in the registry book at the club house. Your name, date, quantity, and size of trout taken, must be recorded. Neglecting to do this will be sufficient cause for action by the Fish and Game Committee.

Family Fishing

At any time, except on opening day, members may take the immediate members of his or her family, except children over the age of eighteen years, fishing. They may fish only while accompanied by the member, and the member will be responsible for their conduct. The aggregate number of fish taken by the family must not exceed the limit allowed to the member alone. They are also subject to all club Rules and Regulations while on the property.

Special Opening Day Regulations

On opening day, which will be the first Sunday in May unless otherwise designated, all members will stop at the Club House, show their Membership Card and sign their name in the Registry Book. They will then be given a numbered tag which will be worn in prominent position where it may be plainly seen. When through fishing, this tag MUST BE RETURNED and trout caught registered.

On opening day, only regular, paid up members of the club will be allowed to fish. At any other time it is not necessary to have a tag, but you must have a current membership card in your posession, and be willing to show it to any official or other member of the club, who will at the same time show his card.

The Single Gun will be fired on Opening Day at 8 A.M. No fishing before the gun. Several of your fellow members have been appointed to act as observers to see that all regulations are being complied with. Violations reported and proven may lead to the members suspension from the club.

It is earnestly hoped that all will conduct themselves so that there will be no criticism. Have regard for your fellow members, don't crowd in them if they hook a trout.

Please park your vehicles off the highway so as not to obstruct traffic, and be careful when crossing the road to avoid accidents.
